Solo Kayak To Hawaii
After 91 days at sea Cyril reached Hilo Hawaii after leaving Monterey, California to become to the first solo, unsupported and 100% human powered kayak to make the crossing. Read all about it here.
The History
Only one unbelievable man has ever accomplished this feat, Ed Gillet. The first of the modern kayak mega crossing, Ed’s 1987 expedition was accomplished in 64 days and was done in an off the shelf 20 foot tandem sea kayak carrying 600 pounds of essentials. His progress was slower than he envisioned at 40 days and he ran out of food at 60.
You can read more about his expedition in the book The Pacific Alone.

The Path
100% human powered, Cyril plans to paddle a custom single man kayak from Monterey, California to Oahu, Hawaii. He will be completely self supported carrying all his necessary gear, food and necessities to make the trek. He hopes to accomplish this feat in 70 days setting the record for the fastest human powered kayak crossing.
The Ocean Kayak
Working with world renowned boat specialist Rob Feloy in Devon, England, Cyril is building a specialized vessel for the crossing.
The ocean kayak has been fully customized for the specific target of crossing the mid-pacific and be self-sustainable in energy, food and water for 70 days.
He named her “Valentine”, after his sister.
“She is my nest and protection. Very trustworthy and reliable. Brand new but old fashioned. A little bit slow and round and heavy but trustworthy and steady in her progression. Safety first. But she is still made of the latest technology: full carbon core, latest updates for electronics GPS and VHF, satellite phones and iridium trackers, reverse osmosis technology for water making, Solar panels and lithium batteries, freeze dried meals and high calorie energy bars, she is loaded with the best of the best”.
