Taking Small Steps Toward a Big Adventure
Big adventures & big goals don’t happen overnight. Taking small steps towards a big adventure helps you to gradually build up your skills, experience, and confidence. Before I crossed the ocean I did many smaller adventures around the Bay, in my own backyard to gradually build up to my biggest challenge. Take it slow there is no rush, the ocean will always be there :)
Start with small, local adventures: Take day trips or weekend excursions to nearby hiking trails, campsites, or other outdoor areas. This will allow you to get a taste of adventure without committing to a long, multi-day trip.
Build up your skills and fitness: If your big adventure requires specific skills or a high level of fitness, start training for it in advance. Take a class, read up on the necessary skills, or start working out to build up your strength and endurance.
Plan and prepare: Research your big adventure, read trip reports, and make a detailed plan. Make sure you have all the necessary equipment and supplies, and practice using them before your trip.
Gradually increase the difficulty of your adventures: As you become more comfortable and confident, start planning bigger and more challenging adventures.
Find a mentor or join a group: If possible, find a more experienced adventurer who can offer guidance and advice. Joining a group or club with similar interests can also be a great way to gain experience and make new friends who share your passion for adventure.
Adventure is all about personal challenge, and taking small steps is a good way to achieve a big goal.
